 Don Schoening, Club President, called the meeting to order.  The September 16, 2007 meeting of the Golden Triangle PC Club had a total of 19 members, and 8 guests’ in attendance. Three new members joined the club:  Ted Pennington, Ron Foster,  Richard Brink.

Dr. Sam Giglio introduced the speaker, Ira Wilsker, who gave a presentation on Identity Theft.  Ira began his presentation by giving the definition of Identity theft, which is: "Theft or misuse of personal or financial identifiers in order to gain something of value and/or facilitate other criminal activity."

The following topics were presented:

·        Statistics and graphs

·        Prevention

The presentation included official websites that can be accessed in order to get more information, and statistics regarding Identity Theft.  What you can do to prevent identify theft and where to report identify theft   was covered in the presentation.  Ira’s presentation, in its entirety, can be accessed on our web site, under announcements.

Ira Wilsker announced that the Annual Conference of APCUG would be held in Las Vegas on January 3rd through the 6th at the Riviera.  It was suggested that perhaps those who wished to attend from this area could car pool to Houston Intercontinental or to Lake Charles where plane fares are less expensive.  Ira mentioned that activities, such as half-priced shows, for spouses would also be available because of corporate sponsorship and that most of the meals would be provided or would be available at a reasonable price.  Microsoft and Corel are among  those sponsoring a dinners. Ira suggested making reservations soon, as  there are many events at the hotel during this time of year.

Dr. Sam Giglio announced that the next meeting would feature a presentation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department explaining the new computer-based technology now being used in patrol cars in the County.  Suggestions for possible activities that could be incorporated into our meetings, such as bringing in equipment that one no longer needs and swap with another member who could need it.
