Note: Protect your computer from pets, mositure, etc. by shutting down, closing, etc. when not at home or asleep.

2:30 p.m.: Guest speaker Joe Mike Brooks Gave Presentation on Trouble Shooting Computers.

No. 1 problem: Viruses. No. 2 problem: Failed hard drives.

Mr. Brooks showed us several useful free utilites that he recommends including the trial version of Aida64Extreme all available at www.zydecotech.com/utilities.htm.

Reasons why your computer shuts down and produces blue screen (blue screen of death):

      1. Memory

      2. Hard drive

      3. Video card

You can google your screen error messages for suggestions.

If computer “dead”, problem could be:

      1. Power supply

      2. Motherboard

      3. Modem (not as common now)

He also showed us Hirens Boot CD and several free malware removal programs that he recommends as well as several new cool free programs that are all also available at www.zydecotech.com/utilities.htm.

He gave us his insight on several brands during his presentation. He prefers 3M discs over Memorex. SSD's and slim lines are not reliable. He prefers Hitachi hard drives now over Western Digital and Seagate. He does not care for Norton, McAfee or Mywebsearch. He highly recommends Kaspersky and BitDefender for malware removal, but AVG is a good free one. Use Acronis 2011 (not Acronis 2012), but Zydeco has an online package available.

Mr. Brooks informed us that Zydeco gives our club members a 5% discount and also discounts to senior citizens. He gave us pricing on some of Zydeco's services with no charge for memory installation.

3:45p.m.: Our Vice-president officiated over election of club officers.

Motion was made and seconded to re-elect our existing officers for another year. Motion carried after a show of hands agreed.

4:10 p.m. Treasurer Jerry McDaniel held drawing for door prizes. (See Door Prizes Page for winners)

4:25 p.m. Announcements made: March meeting guest speaker, Ira Wilsker (My Computer Show) presentation, Cyber Crime and Cyber Terrorism.

GTPCC wants your requests for Programs and Guest Speakers.
