Today’s meeting of the GTPCC was held in the Community Room of Howell Furniture, 6095 Folsom in Beaumont, Texas

Speaker: Dr. Sam Giglio, VP of GTPCC

Presentation: Computer Backups, recovery and Disk Cloning

Attendance: 19 members and 5 guests.

1:30p.m.: Dr. Sam opened meeting with Questions & Answers. Topics discussed:

Tool Wiz Time Freeze from toolwiz.com

Natural Reader, versions 9 & 10

EaseUs, Paragon and O&O backup programs (under Bulletins on our website)

Backup Batteries and Electronic Voltage Regulators

UPS (uninteruptable power supply)

Wireless mice and keyboards

2:30p.m.: Dr. Sam and our president gave a presentation on backups and disc recovery and cloning.

The latest version of Acronis, Acronis 12, was demonstrated. Acronis backup and recovery can be purchased thru acronis.com or at a savings thru user group.

EaseUS was discussed.  EaseUS has a free and a paid version with added utilities.

Paragon and O&O backup and recovery  also have free versions.

The difficulty of copying Outlook was also discussed.

Recuva Wizard (file recovery) at recuva.com was also demonstrated.

Offsite websites such as crashplan.com (free) were explained.

Important Notes: Make a bootable backup disc after installing Acronis before making   backups the same for all backup and recovery utilities.

Run cleanup utility programs before backups or cloning.

Test backups by running them now and then.
